American
Association of Dental Schools Application Service (AADSAS):
WHAT EXACTLY DOES AADSAS
DO FOR ME?
AADSAS (The American Association of Dental Schools
Application Service) provides a uniform dental school application
service. Most dental schools in the United States require students
to use the AADSAS for application. There is a fee for this
application service. The AADSAS is not a test! The
information you provide AADSAS will serve as your application to those
dental schools requiring the AADSAS. Make sure the information you
provide is correct, this is the only information besides grades and DAT
scores that the schools will have to represent you. And you will
not be there to defend any unclear information.
WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR THIS
PROCESS?
AADSAS application material packets are available in
your school's pre-health professions office usually during late Winter
or early Spring quarters. AADSAS-E, the E-mail version of the
AADSAS, will also be available around this time. You may also have
to contact AADSAS directly for the application packet at (202)
667-9433. You may (and should) begin your study for the DAT, as
well as completing the AADSAS material without DAT scores. DAT
will automatically send your scores to AADSAS. It will
be your job to send the completed information required by AADSAS
directly to them at the earliest acceptable date--usually June
1st. AADSAS will then take the completed
information from the packet materials you send them and arrange the
information in standard dental school application form. A separate
standardized application form will then be sent by AADSAS to EACH of the
dental schools you have listed on your AADSAS forms.
WHAT KIND OF INFO IS REQUIRED BY
AADSAS?
The information requested on the AADSAS application
form will describe your academic history, personal background,
interests, and experiences. You must complete this application
form carefully and present yourself in the best possible way. You
should have others proofread your completed AADSAS application for
typographical errors, spelling, grammar, and for completeness and
clarity of thought before mailing.
Pay particular attention to the autobiographical
information requested for the AADSAS. The space provided on the
AADSAS for autobiographical information is limited. However, it
can serve as a framework for writing a more complete and personal
autobiography which will be requested by some of the schools' acceptance
committees. For the essay needed for the AADSAS and the dental
schools, see the ESSAY page, it's a
must-see!
SEVERAL STUDENTS HAVE RECEIVED INVITATIONS FOR
INTERVIEWS AT DENTAL SCHOOLS BASED ON THEIR AADSAS INFORMATION ALONE.
